To say I'm not a morning person isn't an exaggeration. I've just never been one to leap out of bed, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to seize the day.
I CAN get up early, I just don't like it. I've had to do it my whole life: for school, for kids, for work. I don't know who was more excited for school delays and/or closings - me or my kids.
And it's not like I'm a night owl either (lots of animal metaphors in this one...just go with me). I'm rarely up past 10pm and I try get about 8-9 hours of sleep per night.
For a short while, I got up every day around 6am, worked out a bit and then got ready for work. And even though I was able to do it, in the long run it wasn't sustainable for me. I just don't like early mornings.
And that's ok. Everyone has different needs and different sleep patterns. Whether you're an early bird, a night owl or somewhere in between, it's important that you get the right amount and right kind of sleep.
Sleep makes you feel better, but its importance goes way beyond decreasing those dark circles under your eyes.
Sleep can:
Improve your memory
Improve blood pressure and reduce inflammation
Help improve creativity, focus and brain performance
Improve your overall mood

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to get some coffee and get ready to take on today.
